DIGIPAK: Song titles/track list

Song titles
As Sly antics only have 5 songs, as you can see on their Soundcloud list below, I had to add a few extra tracks as 5 songs would not fit the normal convention of around 12 tracks.
Track convention
I researched how many tracks would usually be on an album, this varies but only using example from the indie/rock genre I have concluded upon 10 tracks. Even though usually these bands would have 12 tracks as this is Sly antics first album I feel like 10 is more suited as the band is new and the examples I have picked are from a bands 4th or 5th album not their first like Sly antics. These examples are the Arctic Monkeys who have 12 and The Kooks who have 11 tracks. I also looked at online forums to see what other peoples opinions were on the amount of tracks on an album. Most people said around 10 a few said between 8 and 14 so I feel that 10 tracks is a good mid point.

Extra song names

I have chosen to add 5 extra tracks and name them after titles inspired by songs of the same indie/rock genre. These are inspired by Discharge songs such as 'Hear nothing,see nothing, say nothing', 'Does the system work' and 'Religion instigates' I felt like these new song titles fit the same pattern as Sly Antics original tracks as they are grungy and dark.                                                                  

Track font and colour

To carry on Sly antics signature style of using pink and grey together I made the text pink and grey to fit with their style. Even though the colour pink may not be fitting with the indie/rock genre it fits with the bands already existing online presence as seen in my past posts on their website. Also I used a grungy type font to again fit with the bands pre existing image and I also felt as if this worked well with the aesthetics of the Digipak. Again for the numbers I used a hand writing font to make it look scruffy and worn to fit with the signature rough look associated with the genre. I have also made all the text bar the a's capitals to add something extra to the track list it makes it unique and different to fit with the indie genre.

Arctic monkeys:

The Arctic monkeys plain black and white approach inspired my original teaser adverts however I have built upon them over several weeks and have now taken another approach using their other signature style of cutting the bold text out of an image in this cast a psychedelic pattern. This is very fitting with the Indie genre as many other bands have used this approach therefore our poster will be fitting with our chosen genre.

 The 1975:
The 1975 have also influenced my art work. Again similar to The arctic Monkeys they have a very well know simple stylised approach which is now their signature trademark and is well recognisable. I also have tried to create a running trend through out my work by using the same bold fonts and a trend in the images, the trend being that they are all possess a  grainy effect created as they are screen shots of film footage I have taken adding to the retro and therefore indie feel as well as extra effects found on the photoshop filters. I hope that this achieves the same effect and that all the art work is interlinked. My running trend throughout my artwork is also the reoccurrence of the low levels of opacity used. This is used in all my art work and helps to blend the sharp lines of the text and image that are placed on top of each other. Also creating a hazy effect which can also be seen in the 1975s art work bellow. Again the 1975 have cut the text out of the image as I have how ever I have layer together separate multiple images. 

 As you can see in the art work below again they have used the opacity to create a hazy effect but this time not with the text but with the images themselves. I have also done this with my images as I have layer multiple images on top of each other including images of lights with I have used as the base layer and by lowering the opacities of the upper layer shines through to create an indie approach to an other wise simple photo.

Sly antics have the following accounts: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and their own website. They advertise their other social media sites from their main website.

This is clever as their website is an easy link to their various other social media sites, helping to create a larger interest in the band as people can quickly see what they are about and in a way get to know the band them selfs. It creates a very approachable feel to the band as they have a section called "speak to us" where people who don't wish to post directly to a visible website can privately message them. The immediate updates also means that people can keep up to date with the bands new music or gigs as well as their page outlining all new gigs. Another way the band has successfully brought across their image is to post reviews of the band from promotors and magazine adverts, this gives a real feel about what kind of atmosphere the band creates at a gig and what to expect from a unbiased view point. This here is a band with promise and potential and we are only just seeing the beginning of it – LITTLE INDIE NIGHT

Website style
The band has again brought across their image through their use of fonts, colours, images and textures. We can see from their use of black and white grained images that they have gone for an alternative indie approach, this is common of indie bands such as The arctic monkeys

Magazine advert

Using photoshop I played around with trying to create a simple poster to be used with in our music video. In these I used images taken from footage we had previously taken and added some effects to make them look more grungy to fit with the bands style. As a posters main focus is the information I made sure that it was bold and visible from afar. 

Next

Next I will need to try develop these using illustrator which i have just been introduced to. This will help with the pixelation of the text and images.

Influenced by:

Again these simple images are influenced by fellow indie bands such as the arctic monkeys and 1975 who use very simplistic and stylised images with minimal to no text included.

First draft of magaziene advert

This is a very rough edit I created on photoshop using screen shots of my previous filmed footage. As the quality of the image wasn't very good I using the effects tool added this complete black and white effect. This very simplistic approach was inspired by the Arctic Monkeys past art work. Both use straight black and white colouring and only simple lines. Also as this was intended to be a simple teaser advert I added minimal text/information in order to create hype and mystery behind the upcoming Sly Antics album.
