SLY ANTICS - INTRO (2015)

 When talking with the band about what they wanted for their video they mentioned they wanted it to have a similar feel as the previous one they made. I took direct influence then from their first video by including similar/replicated shots integrated throughout. I tried as best as I could to keep things in from their last video that would fit with the narrative of the new one I was making for them.


With this in mind I also replicated editing techniques, for example I cut the shots to the beat of the music in some parts of the video where I thought it best suited it, I also used the same  technique to build up tension about the "bagman" character. I used narrative enigma as they did in initially, they used it at the end of their video by slowly panning up the characters body but using cut away shots so they didn't reveal him straight away. I did this too when the video gets to the warehouse scenes, although we had already seen the character it fit with the build up of the music thus creating the tension desired.

On the shoot we travelled to the band rehearsal space in Todmorden near Hebden Bridge to film the last needed green screen footage.
What went wrong/right
It took me and paige a while to put up the green screen we used masking tape to hold the sheet up. Fortunately there was was large flat wall in the bands central recording space. We found some step ladders to help us reach the top of the wall. 

The shoot took around 10 minutes to film the song three times from multiple angles so we finished with plenty of time.

This is clever as their website is an easy link to their various other social media sites, helping to create a larger interest in the band as people can quickly see what they are about and in a way get to know the band them selfs. It creates a very approachable feel to the band as they have a section called "speak to us" where people who don't wish to post directly to a visible website can privately message them. The immediate updates also means that people can keep up to date with the bands new music or gigs as well as their page outlining all new gigs. Another way the band has successfully brought across their image is to post reviews of the band from promotors and magazine adverts, this gives a real feel about what kind of atmosphere the band creates at a gig and what to expect from a unbiased view point. This here is a band with promise and potential and we are only just seeing the beginning of it – LITTLE INDIE NIGHT

Website style
The band has again brought across their image through their use of fonts, colours, images and textures. We can see from their use of black and white grained images that they have gone for an alternative indie approach, this is common of indie bands such as The arctic monkeys

. They have also used the same back and white colour scheme by using many shades of grey rather than just  a straight black and white effect.

PLANNING: casting masked figure

In Sly antics video Intro   they include a masked figure at the end 

to create a link between the two videos we wanted to follow on the story and include the masked man. As he is masked it didn't need to be the same actor playing the the masked man in our video so we chose someone who was around the same build and height so the two looked quite similar and the follow on would be obvious. That person happened to be my dad which was convenient as he was available on any date or time. 

Viral idea: Magazine and digipak idea

Viral idea
To take our magazine ad and digipak to the next level we are considering creating a scheme where fans of the band will take a photo of the bands poster in venues that they want the band to play in for example local bars, and then hashtag #slyanticsplayhere and post it on the social media site of their choice e.g. instagram, twitter or Facebook. This will help us when creating our digipak and magazine ad as we can incorporate these photos.

Using new media such as text, email and Twitter we have communicated with the band Sly Antics who will be centred in our music video.

In these texts we have figured out the most suited date for both us and Sly antics, if they have a car and are willing to drive it in the video, and wether all of them are willing to be in the video.
