Green Screen Candyman Video

THE FINAL PRODUCT

This is our original video of the green screen footage:

Unfortunately, after having screened this video within tutor groups, our headteacher decided that some of the lyrics and movements, "makes the panties drop" was too explicit for school use so i had to re-edit the footage and cut out this line.

Convergence on the Shoot

CONVERGENCE

On the shoot I used my Bose Soundlink mini, this is a portable speaker which enabled me to play the music to our actors even when we weren't in a room with speakers, it also helped when we were using two groups at once, this way we could split up and both have music and this sped up the shoot immensely.

FCPX 3: Retiming

RETIMING CLIPS
Once I had made my new compound clip for my background I then wanted to put it on a loop so that it would be the same the whole way through my video, with this in mind I worked out that I would also need to retime the compound clip

Once I had everything I needed I clicked "Window", "Retime" and then "Custom Speed..." This allowed me to set up the time i wanted the clip to last.
In the box it brought up I then went and clicked on "duration" so I could set how long I wanted it for, baring in mind that the longer I had the clip running, the slower the clip would be. For the first attempt I set it for the full length of the song, 3:15:23.

FCPX 2: Compound Clips

COMPOUND CLIPS
For my background of the staff/student video I wanted different people as it using a compound clip as well as the green screen.

Once I had chosen the clips I wanted in the background, I layered them on top of each other and then put them on top of the original coloured layer. I then clicked onto the effects tab and searched for "keyer"

This allowed me to see all three clips on the background at the same time, I then resized the clips so that they fit nicely into the screen using thetransform tool just underneath the window.

I then highlighted all three clips so that they were all selected, then ctrl + clicked onto one of them to bring up this menu, I found "New Compound Clip..." and clicked that. Which then gave me a new clip that had the tree previous ones all in one. What this does is basically flatten all three layers into one which then makes it easier for me to use.

FCPX1: Green Screen

USING THE GREEN SCREEN IN FINAL CUT

Once we had filmed the sections we wanted to green screen for our footage and we had imported it into final cut, we then came to this. I dragged the clip I wanted into the timeline and then went onto the effects tab and found the effect, "Keyer"                                  I dragged this effect over to my section of clip and it then turned the background black. What the "Keyer" effect does is look for the same shade of green and blacks it out, this is why it was extremely important that we kept the green screen tight to the wall, made sure there were no bumps and that the lighting was the same.

Once I had done this, I searched for my desired background to place on the timeline, as we are doing Candyman, we decided to use the blocks of colour that she does within her video. I chose this and then dragged it BELOW the section of film i wanted it to be behind. I have discovered that its important to make sure the background or anything you want behind the film you're green screening isBELOW that layer as if it isn't, it won't work properly. After this, i played my section of film and it worked perfectly with the person lip synching and dancing on a pink background.

MVDay planning: contingencies and plan B

Plan B
The majority of our locations are situated inside however we may use one of the courts to film the dance scene, this however could be filmed in B hall or P hall if it is raining, other wise we could use space in the 6th form centre or a spare classroom if the other options are not possible.
If the chosen people are unable to play Christina due to being ill act then there are many other people that we can ask including my self and paige and the younger classes who are volunteering.

MVDay planning: Locations

We have 5 different locations within the video these are:

The stage in which the 3 main Christina's sing

The location for this will be B hall as we have a suitable stage space with lights and a chain which looks very similar to the location in the real video.

The dance hall where all the dancing occurs

This could be film in a free court if the weather is nice other wise B hall or P hall would do sufficiently other wise we could use space in the 6th form centre or a spare classroom.

The cafe/bar scene

This can be filmed in either the court yard cafe or in the cafeteria in the 6th form centre, we are most likely to use the 6th form centre however.

The airport scene.

We will use a green screen to achieve this as no possible location that we have access to would be suitable.

The coloured back grounds.

We will use either coloured card or the green screen.

MVDay planning: Initial schedule of tasks

This is my Google calendar which outlines what needs to be done on the lead up to Music video day.

MVDay: My finalised Idea - Key Points

Our finalised idea- key points
Our video is an amateur re-creation of Christina Aguilera's Candyman. To do this we will incorporate members of our school e.g. younger years and select members of the post 16 student body as well as members of staff that are willing to participate. We will also take full advantage of the equipment, locations and props available to us through school and friends to help us successfully re create this video to our fullest potential. We however only have the space of one day to couple this task therefore we will be rushed for time, but we through planning we can hopefully meet our deadline.

The shots and locations are pretty straight forward however the shots rapidly change through out following the normal style of a pop video, so we will have to take many alternating shots to successfully create this which will be a challenge.

1. We will use 3 upper 6th girls to take the roles of the 3 main Christina's

However we only have one hat so the main blonde christina will wear this as a running piece of costume to clearly show who is playing christina in this sequence and in many others through out the video. Wigs will be worn to replicate the blonde, ginger and brunette christina these may be swapped around during the video to create variety.

2. lower school students will be used to create the crowd shots i.e. the soldiers and band.
The band will wear their normal white shirts and a dickie bow to create a simple look which will be effective. Also as we don't have access to this amount of instruments so card board cut out ones may be used.
For the soldiers we will create paper sailor hats for them all to create a running piece of costume, clearly indicating that they are soldiers.

3.
We will slap incorporate teachers into the mix as either Christina's or extras.
4. There is a key dance scene in which we will use Paige to be the main female dancer and another male dancer to be her partner.
5. To create the back drop for the single Christina's we will either use coloured card or a green screen.

6. To create the back drop for the airport we will need to use the green screen to create and effective backdrop.
7. We will use the cafeteria at school to re create the bar scene and will instead use the spinning chairs from the media classroom

Music video day: possible idea

We have also considered Christina Aguilera's' Candyman

Music video day: possible idea

Another possible idea could be using a Taylor swift song such as

You belong with me

Shake it off

Music video day: possible ideas

A possible idea is the wacky music video for Can't stop by The red hot chilli peppers

Music video day: problems

  • Planning
  • Getting people involved
  • costume
  • props
  • choose a recognisable song
  • involve years not just post 16
  • getting teachers involved
  • maximum coverage so we have enough shots
  • health and safety
  • rehearsing lip singing
